Some of you may have noticed that something was different at Valley Direct Furniture lately. Someone was missing! Things have changed a little bit around here and that is because Martin Horner has now retired!!!
Back in January Martin, after 25 years of running Valley Direct Furniture, decided it was time to pass the reigns over to 3 long term employees, Tristan, Liam and Mark.
If you know Martin you know that he is very active and busy, always going a hundred miles an hour till he crashes and has a nap! Even in retirement he keeps pretty busy. He has been traveling with his wife Colleen, going fishing, golfing, gardening, and spending time with family, and loves spending time with his two granddaughters (He has 2 more grand kids on the way). He has been buying some commercial real-estate and that keeps him busy with leasing and chasing after tenants. Hopefully he can learn to relax and not drive Colleen too crazy!!
He still pops by the store every now and then to check up on us and make sure we are doing good. He comes in straightens a picture on the wall or moves a lamp around to help. He chats us up, collects his rent and is gone in a flash, off to do some chore or get to a meeting.
We wanted to show our appreciation and decided that a surprise retirement party was in order. We invited friends, family, business partners, reps and people we have done business with for years and years. We had 125 people come down and celebrate with us that night at the Elements Casino in Cloverdale. It was a great night and we even managed to surprise him.
